What are we leaving as inheritance for our new generation? This is an eternal question at all the turning points of our history. As a nation we need sources of inspiration, which are those people who serve our motherland with their creative mind and devotion to ideals of peace, humanity and social justice. The "Gunijan" initiative is for presenting
through the Internet the best products of our soil, who inspire us through their writings, words, scientific and artistic works and other creative pursuits. We hope that the universally accessible information on our best people will inspire the new generations to show their best as patriots of our motherland.

How does it work?
A group of volunteer researchers (mostly journalists and development activists) having passion to work with these eminent personalities are collecting information on these personalities. This information includes complete biography, selected writings/creative persuits, awards or recognitions, pictures and video, if any, of his/her life and a compete
interview about his/her own feeling for the contribution to the nation. A group of filmmakers are also working to develop documentary films on Gunijans. A jury board comprising four (4) members is guiding the D.Net team in identification of Gunijans from a comprehensive list provided by the research team. A bi-lingual website www.gunijan.org is the digital archive of these eminent personalities. Besides, Gunijan program attempts to organize several felicitation programs, musical concerts, publish annual compendium on Gunijans and CD-ROMs of the Guninjans. The thematic areas of Gunijan are education, music, literature, fine arts, social science, philosophy, performing arts, journalism, media, human right, social entrepreneur, science, health, sports etc. Overall the program is running on passion, and patriotism.

What is the impact?
An archive of nation builders
The next generation will have information on their glorious past generation who has contributed to the nation building and thus will inspire them to become more creative and productive for the nation and be a patriot.

Source of information for journalists
Journalists often write reports and articles on different eminent personalities on various ocassions. This online archive will facilitate them to write more informative articles and news.

Permanent recognition for their contribution
The eminent personalities received recognition from various forums. And even some of them have life story publications in different publishing houses. However, all these publications and recognitions are temporary as once the event is over or the publications are distributed they are not easy to collect. This online archive will remain permanent and anyone interested can access it.

What would be the modalities for Continuation
As the program is based on patriotism and passion, it will continue from the support of individual or groups believing in the importance of such initiative. The donation can come from anywhere and from anybody of the world, but not from any donor agencies.
