BDResearch.org - country's first website of its kind - is an online knowledge center containing huge research information on Bangladesh and many other offerings to facilitate research activity. It is actually the official website of BORN (Bangladesh Online Research Network) - a program initiated by D.Net Development Research Network.
How does it work?
This website mainly offers regularly updated publications (relevant to Bangladesh and development), from home and abroad, in well organized categories. Publications are easily searchable by author, publisher, and keywords. All the publications are available in the form of abstract or full-length publication or both. Besides these huge collections of publications, there are other offerings for the users also. Users can get information on current affairs, can receive requested information through e-mail, participate in online discussion forum, contact with the authors, etc.
Publications available at www.bdresearch.org are easily accessible and downloadable. But there are some restricted publications, for which a minimal fee is charged. BORN offers two types of pre-paid cards for downloading restrcited papers- silver (Tk. 250, equivalent to USD 25) and gold (Tk. 500, equivalent to USD 50) carrying 50 and 100 units respectively. Users can activate their cards online and download papers anytime within one year subject to availability of units in their cards.
There are several educational and research institutions who regularly upload their research publications to this site. Among the collaborating institutions Bangladesh Economic Association, Bangladesh Enterprise Institute, Centre for Policy Dialogue, Bangladesh Unnayan Parishad, Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies, Khulna University Studies and Jahangirnagar University are prominent.
From June 2004 to June 2005 about 1302 publications were downloaded from 18 countries other than Bangladesh . These countries are USA , UK , Canada , Japan , Australia , Germany , Netherlands , China , India , Pakistan , Korea , etc.
Last year there were 754 users who downloaded publications from this website. During this time about 100 prepaid cards were sold.
This website is recently restructured with a new look to reach the wider audience. A number of events took place surrounding the National Budget 2005-06 under the programme. Among these, successful live webcasting of the budget speech of Honorable Finance Minister on June 09, 2005 and live webcasting of National Budget response of Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), a premier think tank in Bangladesh , on June 10, 2005, are mentionable.
News clippings, voice and text response on National Budget by eminent personalities also offered. Not only that this website recently published HSC results of 2005 which was hugely appreciated by the people home and abroad.
