Dnet opens 'Pallitathya Kendra' at Shelabunia

Dnet launched its first 'Pallitathya Kendra' (Village Information Centre) at Shelabunia in Mongla, Bagerhat at 17 Septermber 2005. The local MP and former State Minister for Relief and Disester Management Mr. Talukder Abdul Khalek opened the centre in an inaugural ceremony. He said, ‘I feel proud of opening such information centre in my area'.

The inaugural session of the opening was chaired by Mr Sunilkumar Biswas, Presedent, Advisory committee of the Dhariti Samajkalyan Shangha. Dr. Ananya Raihan, Executive DSirector, DNet; Mahmud Hasan, Programme Director, DNet; SM Rezaul Karim, TNO (incharge), Mongla thana; Bibhash Chandra Biswas, Vice-president, Dharitri Samajkalyan Sangha; Dr. Tapan Bagchi, Ashraf Abir, Naimul Haque Joarder, Farhaduddin, Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal and Abul Kamal Azad from D.Net were present in the session. Dr. Ananya Raihan, Executive Director, DNet said, today is a remarkable day. Our philosophy which we accept at the starting point of our journey at 2003 is going to be matter-of-fact. We hope people will get information regarding livelihood including health, education agriculture etc from this centre. Dr Raihan said with model that fishermen in Andra Province of India consult such information centres regularly to spot the area of river where they can anticipate fish throngs, which these information centres locate through satellites. He added, Dnet has also appointed field specific specialists on information help desk at their Dhaka centre who can deal with problems relating to their individual department such as health, legal governance and the other major departments specified above.

Mahmud hasan, Programme Director, DNet said, Under this project, Dnet covers 40 villages comprising 2 unions and a pauroshava where the populace of the area will be able to access Dnet's 'Pallitathya Kendra' (information centre), which will provide them with information on agriculture, health, education, handicraft, disaster management, legal governance, awareness and employment opportunities. He added, Dnet has appointed information workers and 'Mobile Ladies' who have been assigned to serve the village people with information aid. 'Mobile Ladies' are assigned to move into villages and arrange a sitting with the villagers to find out their problems and provide them with solutions through 'Pallitathya Kendra' where the information workers sit to serve the villagers with their required information from computers.

Provash Chandra Biswas, the representitive of Dharitri conducted the session. After the inauguration, a cultural programme was performed by the local artist. They preset the activities of DNet on Paatgan, an indigenous form of combination of music and arts.
