The Grand Anniversary Gala Evening on 28 th January 2006
On the occasion of the 5 th Year Anniversary of D.Net, it organized a grand anniversary gala evening at the auditorium of BRAC Centre Inn at Mohakhali, Dhaka . The programme was held on the evening of 28 th January 2006 at 6PM.
The program started with five beats from the traditional musical instrument “Dhol”. The chief guest of the program, Justice Md. Habibur Rahman, the former Chief Advisor of Bangladesh Caretaker Government inaugurated the programme by lighting 5 candles, symbolizing 5 years of D.Net.
Then Dr. Ananya Raihan, Executive Director of D.Net briefed the audience about the activities of D.Net in the past 5 years.
Then Justice Md. Habibur Rahman presented the crests for the best papers, that were submitted on ICT and Human Resource Development, ICT and Localization, and ICT and Human Rights, respectively to Parves A Shonchoy, Naushad Uzzaman and Quamrunnahar.
This was followed by the award for the best mobile lady working for the Pallitathya project, Ebika Biswas, who took her crest and prize from Ms. Rokeya Afzal Rahman.
Following this, the book “Pallitathya Help Line: A precursor to People's Call Centre” was launched by Dr. Hameeda Hossain.
Then the 9 CDs of livelihood content – “Jeeon” were launched. The CDs on Law, Agriculture, Health, Non-farm activities, Education, Appropriate technology, Disaster Management, Awareness and Thikana were launched officially respectively by Dr. Hamida Hossain and human rights worker Rokeya Sattar, Dr. Hasanuzzaman and farmer Md. Helaluddin, Ms Valerie Taylor, Ms Veena Khaleque and canteen mess owner Moyna, Dr. Md. Ibrahim, Dr. Md. Ibrahim and rural agriculture scientist Kenu Miah, Dr. A.R.Khan, Advocate Sultana Kamal, and Dr. Shamsul Bari. Each launching event was preceded by a flash presentation giving an audio-visual preview of that CD.
After this session the “Mission 2010” was presented by the founder members of D.net, Dr. Ananya Raihan, Mridul Chowdhury, Ajoy Kumar Bose, Mahmud Hasan, Dr. Taufic A. Chowdhury, Shah Md. Ahsan Habib and Dr. Shahnaz Karim. This stated the mission that D.Net has for the next 5 years, the thirteen targets that have been set.
Thereafter, the chief guest Justice Md. Habibur Rahman gave the final speech and Mahmud Hasan, program director of D.Net gave the vote of thanks.
he final attraction of the programme were the performances by solo singer Bappa Mazumder and the southern traditional “Pot Gaan” group from Bagerhat.
