Development and ICT Fair
on 28th and 29th January 2006

On the occasion of its 5 th Year Anniversary, D.Net arranged a 2 day long “Development and ICT Fair” on 28 th and 29 th January 2006 at 2 nd Floor of BRAC Centre Inn, Mohakhali, Dhaka .

In the morning of 28 th January, Dr. Towfiq Ahmed Chowdhury, Chairman of D.Net inaugurated the fair at 9 AM. He opened the fair by cutting through the floral ribbon and gave his welcome speech. Among others present and speaking were Dr. Ananya Raihan, Executive Director of D.Net and Mr. Mahmud Hasan, Program Director of D.Net. They briefed the audience and spectators present regarding the activities and overview of the 2 day extravaganza.Thereafter, they made a visit of the fair.

The fair was evolved around the activities that D.Net is conducting in the fields of ICT for development. There were a total of 16 booths, with the D.Net Booth as the nucleus. The D.Net booth displayed all the publications, brochures and newsletters that D.Net has published and is publishing. It displayed the “Pallitathya Helpline: A Pecursor to people's Call Centre” book, the “A to Z Medical Directory”, the Pallitathya news bulletin, D.Net newsletter, BORN prepaid cards and “Jeeon” CD collections. Some of the products were also for sale.

Among other booths were the Helpline-Helpdesk duo, the BOBIN (Bangladesh Online Business Information Network) booth, the BORN (Bangladesh Online Research Network) booth, the “Gunijan” booth, the CLP (Computer Literacy Programme) booth and booths on the different types of CDs that is being launched in the “Jeeon” pachage, namely- Health, Agriculture, Laws and Human rights, Disaster Management, Non-farm activities, Appropriate Technology, Awareness, Education, Rural employment and Address (Jeeon Thikana).

The two day fair was a great success and was visited by a large number of visitors, including the renowned personnel of the civil society, economists, journalists, teachers, students, researchers, national policy makers and many other professionals and non professionals. The curiosity of these people were turned to awe at the spectacular display of innovation. They all appreciated the works of D.Net from their respective professional point of view. They all wished D.Net well.
