Training workshop on
Accessing and Intermediation of Local Language Content

D.Net (Development Research Network) has conducted a training workshop titled “Accessing and Intermediation of Local Language Content” for information worker, manager, infomediary working in different telecentre under PAN Localization project in collaboration with BRAC University and Banngladesh Telecentre Network (BTN).

Dr. Mumit Khan, Chief, CRBLP (Centre for Research Bangla Language Processing), BRAC University inaugurated the training. The inaugural event was attended by Zakaria Swapan, Mahmud Hasan and Masum Billah, Project coordinator of PAN localization project.

A total of 14 potential infomediaries from different telecentre practitioners like BNNRC, DAM, Practical Action, YPSA, DEN, BRAC Net, Coast Trust and D.Net took part in the training as participant. During the training period infomediaries from the telecentres sharing their experiences and give some opinion how to become an efficient infomediary. They also shared their working process, daily activity schedule including gender and different technical issues like internet browsing software & hardware etc. The 9 days long training period applied different significant and effective strategy to improve skill among infomediaries for local content intermediation. As a part of this learning process a field tour included for their practical realization and insight how a telecentre works in the rural areas operates. They also experienced how a mobile lady works as an infomediary.

The participants express their deep commitment to ensure more service for the rural community people through their dedication, hardworking in the light of the practical learning what they have achieved through this training. The closing session was followed by a certificate distribution ceremony where AHM. Bazlur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer, BNNRC and Dr. Mumit Khan from BRAC University were formally present.
