Gono Unanyan Kendra (GUK) and D.Net’s Pallitathya jointly organised a regional workshop titled "Telecentre: Bridging Opportunities" at Zila Parishad Auditorium, Gaibandha on 16 June 2008 under the project of CLICK. The event was supported by Microsoft unlimited potential, co-organized by D.Net, BTN and also CLP.
Mr. Abu Mohammad Yousuf, Deputy Commissioner, Gaibandha was the Chief Guest in the inaugural session of the workshop. Chief Executive of Gono Unanyan Kendra (GUK) Mr. M Abdus Salam chaired the session. Mr. Mollah Nazrul Islam, Police Super, Gaibandha and Mr. Feroz Mahmud, Country Manager of Microsoft Bangladesh were present as Special Guests. Project Manager of Intel World Ahead Program Mr. Akter Uddin Ahamed, Executive Director of D.Net and Secretary General of Bangladesh Telecentre Network (BTN) Dr. Ananya Raihan, and Chief Operating Officer, Bangladesh Telecentre Network (BTN) Mr. Mahmud Hasan, were present as honorable guests of the workshop. Around 140 participants from different NGOs, GOs, civil society, Telecentre practitioners, academician, students, and youths also attended the day long workshop.
The main focus of the workshop was -
- To build the understanding of people and potential organizations the concept and future of telecentre on Bangladesh context.
- To link the trainees under CLICK project with job market as well as share the telecentre concept with potential local organizations who can either recruit these trained human resources in their ICT projects or replicate this telecentre model.
- To build a strong network through CLICK centre with others telecentre practitioners.
In the first half of the workshop a keynote was presented by Mr. Mosharoff Hossain, Senior Program officer, D.Net. Trainee from CLICK Centre, Service User of Pallitathya Kendra and Teacher/trainer of Computer Literacy Program (CLP) told their success stories in the workshop.
In second session participants shared their experiences with local opinion leaders like Telecentre operators, NGOs, GOs, and private sectors etc. An open discussion held with local opinion leaders. This session was jointly facilitated by Sk. Masudur Rahman, Senior Program Officer, D.Net and Mr. Mahmud Hasan,. The workshop was ended by thanking all participants for their valuable inputs.
