Title of News: Regional workshop ‘Telecentre: Bridging Opportunities’ held in Barishal under CLICK Project

D.Net (Development Research Network) has been successfully completed an another regional workshop under Microsoft Unlimited Potential supported project named "Community for Learning Information, Communication and Knowledge (CLICK)".The regional workshop was held on 26 May, 2008 in Barisal at Ladies Club auditorium.

The workshop was organised by D.Net’s Pallitathya and the local organization YES Bangladesh and in association with D.Net, Bangladesh Telecentre Network (BTN) and Computer Literacy Programme (CLP) was the coorganizer. The objective of this workshop was to link the trainees of the CLICK project with job market as well as share the telecentre concept with potential local organizations, which can either recruit these trained trainees at their ICT projects or replicate the telecentre model.



Additional Deputy Commissioner of Barisal district (education and development), Mr. A.N. Ahmed Ali was the honorable chief guest of the programme. Dr. Annanya Raihan, the General Secretary of Bangladesh Telecentre Network, T.I.M Nurul Kabir, Treasurer of Bangladesh Telecentre Network, Md. Moniruzzaman, Deputy Director, Information Department of Barisal District. Mr. Forhad Uddin, Deputy Director of D.Net were present there as special guests. The Chair of the Programme was Professor Samsunnahar Shali, Chairperson, executive committee of YES Bangladesh.

The honorable chief guest Mr. A.N. Ahmed Ali said “ICT is power. ICT dominant the world and for this reason we should utilize the power of ICT to expedite the development process of our country. Use ICT for poverty alleviation of Bangladesh. In this programme key note paper presented Mr. Forhad Uddin, Deputy Director of D.Net.

Dr. Annanya Raihan, General Secretary of Bangladesh Telecentre Network said "BTN is committed to influence telecentre activities in Bangladesh and for this reason it is going to take several realistic steps that is in effect will help its members to move forward their activities". Dr. Raihan also said the main objective of this workshop is to introduce what is telecentre, why it is necessary, how telecentre practitioner in Barisal Division can help to achieve mission 2011. The other speakers of this workshop were Mr. Ali Ahmed Tahakik, Partner relations officer, GPCIC, Md. Abdullah Al Mamun, Centre Manager, YES Bangladesh Pollitathya Kendro.
In story telling session the participate from GPCIC Mr. Salah Azad Sohag,from CLP Senior teacher Mr. Golam Moshiur Alam, local beneficiary Mr. Saiful Islam, local student Jasimiddin Jafor shared there experience.



In the second half participants divided into two groups. Participants of one group have shared their experiences in telecenter practice. Participants Interested to build telecenters in grass roots gathered necessary idea in the session. Another parallel session on ICT roadmap was facilitated by Mr. T.I.M Nurul Kabir and Dr. Ananya Raihan. Both of the sessions were enjoyed by all the participants.
